Position Title: Modern Trade Associate

Department: Sales/Business Development

Reports To: Modern Trade Manager/Head of Sales

Location: Malaysia or Singapore

Job Type: Full Time

Position Overview:

The Modern Trade Associate will be responsible for driving the sales and distribution of our products within modern trade channels, including large retail chains, supermarkets, hypermarkets, and specialty stores. This role involves building strong relationships with buyers and retail personnel, implementing strategic sales and marketing initiatives, and ensuring optimal product placement and visibility in the retail space.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Execution, Distribution and Strategy:

  • Drive sales growth across existing modern trade accounts (supermarkets, hypermarkets, large retailers).
  • Drive the expansion of product distribution across modern trade markets, ensuring wider reach and availability. 
  • Develop and implement strategies for maximizing shelf space, product visibility, and brand presence within key accounts.
  • Execute promotions, in-store displays, and other marketing activities in collaboration with the marketing team.
  • Monitor sales trends and adjust strategies to meet sales targets and customer demands.

Account Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key retail customers and buyers.
  • Regularly visit assigned retail locations to assess product placement, stock levels, and overall brand performance.
  • Address any issues with product availability, customer complaints, or merchandising concerns in a timely manner.
  • Negotiate terms and agreements with retail partners to secure optimal product placement.

Merchandising & Visibility:

  • Ensure products are adequately stocked, well-displayed, and in line with brand guidelines.
  • Work with the merchandising team to create compelling point-of-sale materials and displays.
  • Ensure that retail partners are compliant with promotional agreements and sales plans.

Sales Reporting & Analysis:

  • Track and analyze sales performance data to assess the effectiveness of sales strategies.
  • Provide regular reports on sales activity, competitor performance, and market trends.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and recommend actionable insights to management.

Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Collaborate with the marketing, logistics, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth product distribution and timely deliveries.
  • Work closely with other sales associates and internal teams to align on targets and strategies.
  • Coordinate with external partners, such as distributors, to ensure seamless operations.

Customer and Market Intelligence:

  • Gather insights on consumer preferences, competitive activities, and emerging trends in the retail space.
  • Provide recommendations based on customer feedback and market dynamics to enhance product offerings and positioning.
  1. Trade Marketing Support:
  • Support the execution of trade marketing campaigns, product launches, and seasonal promotions within the modern trade channels.
  • Implement in-store activities and ensure effective communication of promotional messages to end consumers.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience in sales, retail, or modern trade channel management.
  • Skills:
  • Strong understanding of modern trade dynamics and/or key account management.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and sales reporting tools.
  • Ability to analyze data, forecast trends, and make strategic recommendations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and consumer behavior.
  • Previous experience working in modern trader or buying is a plus.
